Formula One star Lewis Hamilton paid glowing tribute to the late Chawick Boseman following his victory at the Belgian Grand Prix.

The 35-year-old led all 44 laps at Spa-Francorchamps, with Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finishing second and third, respectively.

Despite closing to within two wins of Michael Schumacher’s all-time Formula One record, Hamilton preferred to dedicate the win to celebrated actor, who died on Saturday.

He also adopted a Black Panther gesture on the podium of the Belgian GP in tribute to the actor, who starred in the movie Black Panther.

“We are continuing to push the envelope, and it feels great to finish on a high this weekend, particularly with Chad (Chadwick Boseman) dying because he made everyone feel like a superhero,” Hamilton said.

In a separate post on Twitter, he wrote: “I want to dedicate this pole to Chadwick. What he accomplished and the legacy he left is so incredible to me.

“He’s inspired a whole generation of young black men and women and provided them with a true superhero to look up to. Rest in power my friend.”

Boseman died of colon cancer on Saturday, having battled it since 2016, a statement from his family said.

“A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you so many of the films you have come to love so much.

“From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy,” the statement added.
