In August 2020, when news broke of the tragic passing of great late actor Chadwick Boseman, who is globally known for his role as the Black Panther in Disney’s Marvel films, it caught fans by surprise.
Only privileged individuals knew that he had been battling late stage colon cancer since 2016. It is interesting to note here that Black Panther started filming in early 2017. He married Taylor Simone Ledward in secret after getting engaged in October 2019. They had been dating since 2015. Because he did not have a will and final testament, his wife became the executor of his estate upon his passing.
With a big task at hand, Boseman’s widow took over the estate, and became the sole person responsible for submitting proper paperwork, documents and details to the court, as well as all responsibilities included in managing Boseman’s estate. According to reports, she provided rough estimates to the courts as to what the numerical value associated with the “personal property” of Chadwick Boseman was worth. That number was listed as $939,000, originally, but after some additional time, she was able to be more detail oriented and provide a more accurate figure. To follow up with the original court documents she submitted, Boseman’s widow filed new legal paperwork that included an updated appraisal and inventory of the late actor’s estate. That new sum value totaled $3,577,861. The reason for such a large increase from the original number had to do with a number of checks that came in following the first legal submission. Boseman’s widow explained that tow of the checks came from Disney regarding money owed to him. The money was specifically noted as $5000 labeled as “separate property” and $3.3 million that was included in Boseman’s corporation, Chadwick Boseman Inc.
As legal estate executor documents and operations are precise, in order to be reimbursed for monies she spent on funeral expenses, Boseman’s widow had to create a creditor’s claim to receive repayment. The claim includes costs associated for flowers, $1,275, costs for the reception, $21,000, and more. The total claim is for $71,613.74.
