English-Ghanaian midfielder Bobby Amartey scored in Sutton United's 3-2 National League Cup win over West Bromwich Albion U21.
English-Ghanaian midfielder Bobby Amartey got on the scoresheet on Tuesday as Sutton United outlasted West Bromwich Albion U21 3-2 in a lively National League Cup Group D clash.
West Brom struck first through Rio Parmar in the ninth minute, but Sutton wasted no time hitting back. Sam Folarin levelled in the 14th minute, and five minutes later Amartey put the hosts in front, finishing after a setup from Charlie Bell. Sutton went into the break 2-1 up.
Omar Mussa extended the lead in the 66th minute to give Sutton some breathing room. Justin Seven-Seven pulled one back for West Brom in the 75th minute and made for a nervy finish, but Sutton held firm to secure the three points.
The result lifts Sutton to third in Group D, while West Brom stay fourth. With Folarin, Amartey and Mussa all among the goals, it was an encouraging attacking display.
Next up for Sutton is the FA Cup, where they face Truro on October 17. Amartey will be hoping his goal against the young Baggies earns him a spot in the squad for that tie.
