Ghana's Jan Gyamerah is fit again and ready to fight for his Elversberg starting spot against Augsburg after recovering from a muscle injury.
Ghana's Jan Gyamerah is back in business. The 31-year-old right-back has rejoined full training at Elversberg, having completed his recovery from the muscular problem that forced him out of the Black Stars squad during the recent international break.
The injury came in Elversberg's goalless draw with Schalke 04 just before the break. Gyamerah has since finished his rehabilitation and is now available for selection ahead of Saturday's Bundesliga home clash with FC Augsburg.
Whether he walks straight back into the XI is another matter. Luca Sirch took his chance in Gyamerah's absence, putting in a composed display on the right side of defence in the narrow 1-0 loss to Union Berlin. The 27-year-old has made a strong case to keep his place.
That gives coach Vincent Wagner a real selection headache: Gyamerah's experience and familiarity with the role against Sirch's fresh momentum. It is the kind of competition any manager wants at a key stage of the season.
With Elversberg looking to bounce back against Augsburg, having Gyamerah fit and pushing for minutes adds valuable depth to the back line.
