Spurs loanee Mikey Moore is finding rhythm, minutes and confidence in Germany, and young talents everywhere should take note.
For every young African and diaspora talent dreaming of Europe, Mikey Moore's loan move is a lesson worth studying: the fastest way to grow is to play. The Tottenham teenager has swapped the pressure of the Premier League bench for regular football at Cologne, and he's loving it.
Moore arrived in the Bundesliga with big expectations. He broke through at Spurs as a teenager and was tipped as one of English football's brightest wingers. At a club with a crowded attack, though, minutes are hard to come by. Germany offers a different deal: real responsibility, a demanding league and a platform to show what he can do.
The Bundesliga has long been a trusted finishing school for young players, including many with African roots who found their feet there before moving on to bigger stages. It rewards pace, directness and fearlessness, and it gives youngsters room to make mistakes and learn from them. Moore's game suits that environment.
By all accounts, the winger is enjoying life in Cologne, on the pitch and off it. For Spurs, that's exactly what a loan should deliver: a more confident, battle-tested player who returns ready to push for a bigger role. For Moore, it's a chance to turn potential into proof.
Keep an eye on him. If this spell goes the way it's heading, Mikey Moore won't just be coming back to north London. He'll be coming back as a player who's grown up fast in one of Europe's toughest leagues.
