Cameroon striker Christian Bassogog makes Shanghai Shenhua switch

Cameroon international forward Christian Bassogog has joined Shanghai Shenhua, the Chinese Super League club announced on Friday.

Bassogog, named the tournament’s best player when he helped Cameroon win the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, signed for the Shanghai side after four seasons with fellow Chinese Super League side Henan Jianye.

The 25-year-old joins Choi Kang-hee’s squad as they attempt to improve on last year’s seventh-place finish in the league. Bassogog is joined at Shenhua by Croatian defender Matej Jonjic, who has signed from Japanese side Cerezo Osaka.

No date has been announced for the start of the new Chinese domestic campaign, which is expected to be played in centralised venues due to the impact of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
