Two-time Wimbledon runner-up Ons Jabeur retired from her first round against Viktoriya Tomova on Monday.

The Tunisian was trailing 3-2 in the first set when she took a medical time out for 14 minutes under hot weather conditions in SW19.

The former world number two returned to court but was unable to continue and ultimately threw in the towel with Tomova leading 7-6 (7-5) 2-0.

Reflecting on her early exit, Jabeur said: “I wasn’t expecting not to feel good. I have been practising pretty well the last few days, but I guess these things happen.

“I’m pretty sad, it really doesn’t really help with my confidence and what I keep pushing myself to do, even though it has been a very tough season for me.”

Jabeur has struggled with injuries in the past year and has dropped down the WTA rankings to currently sit 59th in the world.

She finished as runner-up at Wimbledon in 2022 and 2023, losing to Elena Rybakina and Marketa Vondrousova respectively.
