Ghana's Black Queens beat Mauritius 7-0 for a 10-0 aggregate win, and coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren still thinks they could have scored more.
Ghana's Black Queens are flying the flag for African women's football. They put seven past Mauritius at the Essipong Stadium on Tuesday and booked their place in the third round of qualifying for the 2028 Olympic Games.
The second-leg rout, added to a 3-0 win in the first leg, gave Ghana a 10-0 aggregate victory in their second-round tie. Mauritius never found a way to slow the hosts down, and the Queens' sharp finishing decided the contest.
Head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren was pleased with what he saw, especially in front of goal, but he was not fully satisfied. He felt his side created enough chances to score even more. Still, he said playing a attractive brand of football in front of the home fans and hitting seven was something to be happy about and enjoy. He added that the team is delighted to be through and ready to see what comes next.
What comes next is a tougher test. Ghana will face the winner of the Zambia versus Uganda tie in the third round in February 2027, with a place at the Olympics getting closer. After this performance, the Black Queens will arrive in that clash with plenty of confidence.
