Mohammed Salisu set to miss World Cup after suffering ACL injury

Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu is set to miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during AS Monaco’s Ligue 1 clash with Olympique Lyon over the weekend.

He picked up injury occurred at the end of the match after clutching his knee and required medical attention.

Further assessment revealed the severity of his injury which could see him out of action for up to nine months.

“At the very end of the match against Olympique Lyonnais, our centre-back Mohammed Salisu suffered an injury to his left knee,” Monaco said in a statement on X.

“Medical examinations revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The Club will support Mohammed throughout his recovery and is behind him all the way. Stay strong, Sarki, we’re with you.”

Salisu’s setback adds to a growing list of Ghanaian players who have suffered similar injuries over the past year including Fatawu Issahaku, Tariq Lamptey and Baba Iddrisu.
