The Nigerian women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, will face the defending champions, the USA, on August 7 at 9:30 pm.
D’Tigress made history by securing Nigeria’s first-ever berth in the quarterfinals of the Olympic basketball tournament.
This followed their impressive 79-70 victory over Canada in their final group game on Sunday, accumulating five classification points and initially topping Group B.
However, their standing shifted when Australia triumphed over France 79-72 in the other group match, pushing Nigeria down to third place in the group rankings.
The encounter with the USA will be the second Olympic face-off between the two teams, with D’Tigress suffering a narrow nine-point defeat to the Americans in their opening group game at the Tokyo Games and also losing to them in the 2024 Olympics qualifiers.
Elsewhere in other quarter-finals clashes, Serbia will clash with Australia, Spain will go up against Belgium, and France will face Germany.
